World Language Offerings
Catholic Virtual now offers students two World Language options to support their academic plans and expand their horizons.
NEW! Option 1 – Electives
1 or 2 Day-a-Week World Language Courses*
Grades 5–8
French and Spanish
You asked, and we listened! Catholic Virtual is proud to support students in grades 5–8 with a Spanish and French language offering that is one or two lessons per week. While these courses are robust and expose students to the language and culture, they are less intensive and have fewer assignments and activities. Courses align with curriculum learning outcomes, have summative assessments, and are written with the communicative language teaching (CLT) model as the guiding principle.
Each grade level contains direct instruction that explicitly teaches students how the language works. Students interact with the language through real-life communication, task-based learning, and multimedia input (visual, audio, song, interactive flashcards, drag and drop). Rather than focusing on strict grammar rules, these courses prepare students to use the language in real life. They also include a small independent assignment or unit project every 3–4 weeks.
*No prerequisite language requirements
Option 2 – Core
5 Day-a-Week World Language Courses
Grades K–12
American Sign Language, Chinese, French, German, Latin, Spanish
Our World Language courses are taking students beyond the traditional classroom. We offer courses that span elementary through high school, and beginners level to Honors and AP®. Our portfolio of courses includes the most widely requested languages such as: Spanish, French, German, American Sign Language, Chinese, and Latin.
When you enroll in Catholic Virtual World Language courses you can assure our dedicated virtual teaching staff will provide a dynamic, robust, 4–5 days per week of instructional activities that encourage language development and cultural exploration.
